Bathhouse:
We are making progress on the bath house. The Interior walls are up and plastered. The plumbing lines are run in the floor, and the shower lines are yet to be installed. We are still waiting on the container to arrive in the next few days, and then we can put the building around and make final hookup of plumbing and electricity.

Children:
Today we worked with Major Brian Woolworth MINUSTAH Military U9 who is working with the UN. The Major and I were part of a team along with IOM (International Organization of Migration) that scouted out the area behind the COG compound where the 2,500 people were re-located to camps out of harm’s way. The IOM/US ARMY/ and UN, in joint efforts, were moving people before the rainy season which has started already. The area that they are being moved to has a tent for each family, with kitchenette, bathroom facility, hospital, school, soccer field, and a place where they can sell their goods. They have only room for 500 families.

At this time I have been told by the IOM that there are 2.5 million people that are in camps around Port-Au-Prince. It will take a long time to get these people re-located. There remain approx 500 people here on the COG compound.

Mission House: We have been working on the plumbing, window screens, faucets to the kitchen and bath, and the water storage 200 gallon tank outside the house. We are still having trouble with the inverter not working properly. This is to have power for light when the city power is out and we have no diesel fuel for the Generator. We have much wood work to continue to do inside and out where the termites have eaten and we will need to replace various wiring problems throughout.

We have three building that are down and will require foundation and rebuild. We have approx 600 ft. of wall down, and we need to put up temporary fencing to curtail the move of people coming thru the property and then we will begin putting up block walls.

Team Kitchen: Gary Levitt and I have been busy cleaning out the wood shop and hauling off debris. We move a truck load of 2x4x12' board today from under the house, over to the shop. We will be putting up a Team kitchen in this location, where we will need to purchase stove, cooking pots, plates, glasses etc.

Bath House: We are currently completing the plaster of the walls in the bath house. The plumbing to the house is comp, and when the metal building is erected, and then we will finish the plumbing to the showers, toilets, and lavatory. We have purchased and installed with plumbing a 500 gallon tank for bath and toilet facilities.

Septic tank: We have begun to dig the septic tank today, but they are going thru a layer of rock, and have to hammer and chisel through.

Dorm 1: We started digging the foundation footing for the dorm. We had to begin to move some of the people from the location where the dorm will be. We have informed them that there will be another building foundation (Dorm 2) to be located beside the first one. The dorm building will be approx 10 ft. apart, with a concrete platform between the two so that the teams will have a place for sitting and eating and we are adding an awning. We have teams booked thru this month and into June and July.

Electrical: We will need to run electrical power to the bath house, and the two dorms.

We have been working diligently on getting things up and running at the Church of God compound in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Because of the lack of housing, transportation, fuel and food, we didn't want to schedule any teams until we were able prepared to accommodate the work teams. We now have updated information concerning work teams and scheduling.

As you know, World Missions has appointed aJim and Gina Hudson"Men and Women of Action" couple, Jim and Gina Hudson, to manage all Haiti Rebuilding efforts. Jim is presently on-site and Gina will be joining him in the next month. Jim and Gina lived over 2 years in Chalmette, Louisiana and coordinated all the relief efforts during Hurricane Katrina in the New Orleans area. Because of their experience with disaster relief efforts, they are an ideal choice to coordinate the rebuilding. We are in the beginning stages of getting everything in place. A small MWOA team just left the COG compound after helping Jim work on the house, electricity, water and other situations. There is much to be done! Here's the latest report:
We are making progress! A shipping container is on its way to Port-au-Prince loaded with items that were purchased and that were donated to use in rebuilding. Building supplies, equipment, cots, mattresses, 5 large tents, 4 prefab metal houses, generators, a stove and many other items are in the container. As soon as it arrives and is unloaded at the Church of God Compound we can begin to plan for future work teams. We are in the process of getting a large vehicle/truck which we can use to transport the teams and supplies. We hope to begin receiving work teams in June 2010. We plan to schedule teams to come and work throughout the rest of this year and on into 2011. We can accommodate teams up to 15 members at one time. We have begun the scheduling, so if you are interested please contact the MWOA office. We ask that volunteers be in good health, have all their shots, have a strong work ethic, good spirited, willing to endure rough conditions and be a team player. We are not able to take anyone under the age of 18 at this time. The cost will be $30 a day per person for expenses (food, fuel, water, housing, etc.) plus your airfare and insurance cost. Depending on where you are flying from, airfare is running anywhere from $375 to $800. Also, each group will need to bring their own cook to prepare the team's meals.
Jim and Gina plan to send weekly updates and pictures on what is getting done in Haiti. I am sure World Missions will be posting these to their website as will we.  We would love to work with you on getting a team from your church or let you join with another team. Please contact me and we will see what we can do. Right now I am helping Jim with the logistics and planning. I will then get you in contact with Jim as to what you will be doing and scheduling your trip. Again, thank you so much for your concern and willingness to help! Teddie Fletcher

We just received these photos from Hugh. As you can see it is horrific. These were taken while he was in Port-au-Prince, Haiti yesterday. Several of these pictures were taken at the COG Compound where 6,000 people are living.

I spoke with Hugh Carver, MWOA Director, this morning by phone. He was in the town of Jimani, located on the border of Dominican Republic and Haiti. Hugh traveled with a group of doctors to this location where an orphanage has been converted to a 400 bed hospital. Hugh said there are hundreds of doctors and nurses working day and night in treating the wounded. He is making plans to get into Haiti tomorrow with one of the groups that is going to Port-au-Prince. Today he is building shelves at the hospital so supplies can be stored. He said that they are operating on people 24 hours a day and that it is a huge endeavor. We will try to keep you updated as we hear from him.

Thank you for your concern and please continue to support Haiti with your prayers and with your donations. You can donate here at our website. The project number is 731-1143-409.

Teddie Fletcher, MWOA

Just spoke with Hugh again at 11am:

He will be in Port-au-prince tomorrow. He is going to the Church of God Campgrounds where around 6,000 people are living in the open field. There are at least 250 injured that have not received any medical care. Please pray for his safety and favor with finding medical help for our brothers and sisters in Haiti. He has taken pictures for us to post but does not have access to the internet to send them. We hope to have pictures and more information daily.

The devastation in Haiti is tremendous and MWOA is receiving many calls and emails concerning how to help the people of Haiti.

At this moment flights into the Port-au-Prince airport are only being allowed by designated organizations that are transporting water, food and medical supplies. Commercial or private planes are NOT being allowed to land. Also there are increasing security problems and we have been informed that all relief teams working in Haiti have armed security with them at all times.

Due to so many logistical obstacles and the desperate need for trained and medical assistance, MWOA is assessing how and when we can be of the greatest help. Please be patient with us as we work with the Haitian officials and gain access to provide help.

We are so thankful for the many people who have called or emailed our office to help. At this time, the best way you can make a difference is by donating to the relief effort. Please click on "Donate" above and follow the instructions. This is will take you to the Church of God but use the MWOA Project number below and all funds will be transferred to MWOA for distribution for Haiti disaster relief.  Be sure to enter project# 731-1143-409.
