Mezcales, Honduras 2005

On February 25, 2005, 26 men and women from 13 different churches met for the first time at George Bush International Airport in Houston, TX, with one common goal: to proclaim the love of God to the people in Honduras.

Two years ago, a powerful hurricane destroyed one of our churches on the mountains of Honduras. Some people from the community were mocking the local Pastor saying, "Now, where is your God? Surely, He would not have allowed this to happen!"

In 2004, several men and women from our church and other churches built a new church to replace the damaged one. And this year, we came back to build a parsonage. One of the local volunteers who was working with us re-committed his life to Christ. And there was an older man who was watching us build the house, and before the end of the day, he accepted Jesus as his Savior. Intensive spiritual warfare was evident on this trip, as several of us got sick from flu, heat exhaustion, high blood pressure, and several minor sicknesses. As we finished working on the roof, the house still lacked doors and windows. Also, there was no water in the house or in the church. We had to walk about half a mile for the closest water well. After we talked about these, everyone on the team gave a love offering and we raised $1500. Enough money to buy the front and the back doors, all the windows, and for a water well!

On Sunday, all the women on our team ministered to the children at San Marcos. It was truly a wonderful time as 13 children received Jesus as their Savior! We also ministered to the children on the mountain of Mezcales. The team prepared 68 backpacks filled with school supplies, toiletries, and toys to be given as gifts and 67 children showed up! The day before we left, Pastor Cary spoke to a group of women from the local area churches. One lady, who lives across the street from our hotel, said to him, "The Bible says, 'Ask and you shall receive'". She went on to say that her husband left her with 4 children, and 6 other people live in her small house. She holds Bible studies at her house and would we consider building an extension to her house so she can accommodate more people. What a faith this lady has! After Pastor Carey shared this with the team, another love offering was taken and we raised over $500 to cover the cost of the materials. Isn't God Jehovah Jireh? He is our Provider!

The night before we left for Honduras, I woke up at 10:00PM with high fever. My whole body was aching. But I had purposed in my heart that nothing but God could stop me from doing the Great Commission. My wife drove me to the airport at 4:00AM and everyone on the team prayed for me and the sickness disappeared after two days. Praise God!

Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?"
And I said, "Here am I. Send me!"
